In this interview, Wild Africa CEO Peter Knights emphasises why conservation messaging in Africa specifically is of critical importance. Peter calls for a new era of conservation communication, one that is local, inclusive, and engaging enough to resonate far beyond the traditional environmental community.
At Wild Africa, this is our core objective. We use our various communication programs—powered by African voices, media, and institutions—to move conservation from the margins into the cultural mainstream.
As he summarises, “People must be aware, and without the public awareness and consequent political will, the wildlife will be increasingly marginalized as it has been elsewhere.”
The article was published in de Olifant, a Dutch magazine curated by Friends of the Elephant, that focuses on elephant conservation.
